Got creativity?
Join AR Girls Virtual Workshop this summer, and use your creativity to produce your own augmented reality (AR) experiences to make our community aware of how to reduce waste ? like food waste, fashion waste, and plastic waste.

In the AR Girls Virtual Workshop, you will learn to use a cool AR app to overlay graphics, videos, audio, even your own art, onto the real world. You'll even get to playtest your AR experiences with other girls around Maine. And NO previous experience is required! Throughout you will be supported by our experienced team, which includes art educators at Waterfall Arts, Wintergreen Art Center, and Fiddlehead Art and Science Center.

Applications are on a first come, first serve basis. A waitlist will be created should spots fill up.
AR Girls Virtual Workshop
  • Open to girls ages 12-16 living in Maine
  • Choose to participate in one week or multiple weeks
  • The workshop consists of online (Zoom) activities and offline independent challenges.
Monday will start with a 90-minute introduction to learning art and technology skills. Then you?ll be tasked with a weekly design challenge! You can check-in with any questions or to get feedback during 1-2 optional open studios on Zoom mid week.

On Friday, we will all gather again for a "game jam" to play our new AR experiences.

You will need (1) mobile device (apple or android) on which you can load the Metaverse app and access to a computer for creating AR experiences. If either are an obstacle for you, please contact your local art org for a possible loaner device.

AR Girls is supported by a National Science Foundation grant, and is a collaboration between the Maine Math and Science Alliance, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Harvard University, Oregon State University, and University of Wisconsin Madison. It?s FREE to all participating girls, and, you don?t need any prior experience?just be ready to unleash your creative potential!
